Don Upton, CRNP

Don Upton is a nationally certified family nurse practitioner that has been an integral part of the Hemberg Health Care team for six years. He began his healthcare career working in emergency medical services as a paramedic and progressed to critical care nursing before transitioning to his current position. He is a proud product of nursing education in the state of Alabama with degrees from Southern Union State Community college, Auburn University Montgomery and the University Of Alabama Birmingham (UAB). Don, a native North Carolinian, lives in Auburn with his wife Margaret and their two dogs. Gracie a 5lb Yorkshire terrorist and Gus a labradoodle rescued from the local animal shelter. Don and Margaret are members of a local church congregation and enjoy their involvement there. The Family Nurse Practitioner program at UAB is focused on the disease processes of hypertension, hyperlipidemia and hyperglycemia. The treatment of these disease processes is the core of Don’s practice and aptly suited for the local population.

Andrea Sport-Pickrel, CRNP

Andrea grew up in Brantley, Alabama and graduated Straughn High School in 2008. She received her BSN in 2012, her MSN 2015 from Auburn University. While in graduate school Andrea did her clinicals at Hemberg Health Care under Dr. Sharma. Dr. Sharma was so impressed with her skills and demeanor with his patients he offered her employment as soon as she graduated and received her license to practice. We are happy to announce she joined our team June 2015. Andrea’s focus in school was primary care and she loves chronic disease management. Andrea married her high school sweetheart, Austin Pickrel, in April of 2016. She and Austin enjoy spending time with family, Auburn football and traveling.
